Longboard Size Chart – Quick Way to Choose the Right Longboard Size

Choosing the right longboard size doesn’t have to be overly challenging. As a reference, longboards tend to be between 22 to 50 inches long, although some go longer.

There are a few things to think about as you choose your longboard length, including your experience level and your height.

What Size Longboard Should I Get?

Start by Considering Your Height

The easiest way to decide on a longboard length is to look at a chart with longboard length for height. These follow the rule of thumb that the taller you are, the longer your longboard should be.

Don’t Forget Stability Vs. Maneuverability

But you also want to consider how the longboard size affects your riding experience. Specifically, you need to decide if you prefer a longboard that is more stable or more maneuverable.

If you want more stability, stick to a longer board. If you want more maneuverability, especially in tight corners, go with a shorter board.

Remember that just like a longer longboard length means the board is more stable, a wider width also boosts stability. At the same time, however, narrow longboards tend to be those that are shorter, while wider ones tend to be longer.

Consider Storage and Portability

This will not be a factor for everyone, but you may want to think about where you will store your longboard and how far you will have to carry it. Remember that longer and wider longboard lengths will take up more room and be more awkward to carry. They are also likely to be heavier. While that’s fine if you don’t have to carry your longboard far, it’s worth considering if you can’t longboard right by your home.

Best Size Longboard for Beginners

There is no hard and fast rule as to the best longboard length for beginners. You have a few options of how you will choose.

One simple option is to just use one of the above charts to choose a longboard based on your height and/or shoe size.

Or you can just start with a midsize board, something around 30 to 46 inches. These are ideal for beginners, as they balance stability and maneuverability. Having a stable ride is especially important when you are new to longboarding.

Don’t Worry About Choosing the Wrong Size

While you want to choose a longboard size that makes sense for you, you shouldn’t stress yourself out too much during the process. You are likely to own several longboards in short order, giving you plenty of opportunities to try out other lengths and styles.

The Takeaway

The ideal longboard length for experienced riders depends on your height, preferred stability level, and ideal longboard style. So whether you are a beginner just starting out, or more advanced with some experience behind you, skating on a regular or electric longboard, the above charts can help you choose a size, but don’t overthink it.
You should easily adapt to any longboard size and will likely buy more in the future anyway.
